“A Decade and Still In Love”

Who would have known that a friend
giving us an old farmhouse over a decade
ago would lead to my entire family falling
in love with salvaged lumber.  Yet that’s
just what happened!
The sole intent of that original tear down
(now we call it deconstruction) was to
salvage the dimensional lumber from the
old farmhouse to use as the skeleton
framing for a much needed family room
addition to our home.  During the tear
down we were gladly burning 5” tongue
and groove flooring painted a royal blue (it
was hideous!)  A friend helping with the
tear down took a piece home one evening,
planed it, oiled it and brought it back to the
site the next morning.  This 5” flooring is
now the family room floor.  That hideous
bright wood became a beautiful antique
pine floor, rich with patina and a warm
glow ranging from honey to amber. We
(and everyone who saw it) fell so in love
with that effect that we began a new
adventure into antique salvaged materials.

    What We Offer?

Long Lost Lumber has available any
material found in structures built
generally 1930’s and before.  We
primarily deal with antique pine from
Texas but we do have deconstruction
sites now in process in Kentucky,
Illinois and Iowa, which brings in a
constant surprise of wonderful new
woods such as cypress, oak, hickory
and many other species.
We carry barn siding of every color,
bead board, various profiles of siding,
pressed tin, flooring and we even
remill dimensional lumber for beautiful
cabinet stock.
We offer consultation services for your
projects and enjoy meeting with
individual home owners, as well as
commercial contractors, architects and
designers.  We have enjoyed doing
business with many clients over the
years and have gained a wealth of
knowledge from the variety of exciting
projects we have been privileged to
work on.

         "Our Mission"

From the viewpoint of a love for historic
architecture, there is nothing more
disturbing than witnessing a vintage barn
or home rich in history being mindlessly
dozed and pushed into a pit, or a local fire
department intentionally setting fire to
“get rid of the eye sore,” or just watching
the slow decay of a structure by Mother
Nature!
Our mission at Long Lost Lumber is fairly
basic – to educate unknowing owners of
vintage structures that their usefulness is
still viable and to preserve the traditions
of the past before they disappear and are
lost for all time.  These structures are rich
with our American history.  When we take
the time to recycle this long lost lumber
(once thought useless) by adding a piece
of the past to homes and commercial
establishments, we are saving a piece of
history for the enjoyment of future
generations.
"About Antique Wood”

Vintage wood comes from original
stands of old growth forest and, as a
result has unparallel architectural
quality and character.  This antique
wood is prized for its beauty and it’s
dry, stable and dense nature.
Reclaimed wood retains the rich
patina and character imparted by
decades of daily use and of
weathering by wind, rain, and sun.
Antique wood, is a true exotic wood
that is crafted naturally!  Call it what
you may, vintage, antique, used
lumber, reclaimed wood, recycled
wood, rustic wood, this unique
antique lumber is prized and sought
out by architects, designers,
craftsmen, builders and just plain ole
lovers of nostalgic.
The unique distinctiveness of
reclaimed wood is generally what
makes it so desirable.  Although we
may provide a sample, photograph or
description of a particular type of
wood as an example to demonstrate
the general characteristics of that type
of product, such sample, photograph
or description may not necessarily be
representative of the end product.
Most materials are presold from a
particular job site before the
deconstruction has even begun.
General characteristics of salvaged
antique lumber is unlimited sound
knots with occasional surface defects
from unsound knots, nail holes with
ferrous stains, unlimited checking and
crack as long as the board is sound.
The surface will have original
weathering and paint and other
evidences of previous use.  Our barn
wood will have unlimited color
variations, generally the patina will be
much darker than the woods normal
color and will vary from gray to
brown with reminisces of paint.
Keep in mind that the above
characteristics are what brings the
uniqueness and individuality that can
not be mass produced and make
antique salvaged material so desirable.
